God’s word says in all things to give thanks, so when I was diagnosed with having Bell’s Palsy, a temporary paralysis of the left side of my face, I did just that. I praised God. My doctor told me that I should see some improvement in eight to twelve weeks. It would have been easy to stay home and hide out for that length of time, especially since I felt that I looked like a bad Picasso painting and my family lovingly said I looked like Popeye the Sailor! In my heart, I knew the best place for me was in God’s healing house with my church family. When Pastor Wayne announced the Altar Ministry prayer time, I practically ran forward and that was when God really showed Himself to me. You see, I really needed to trust Him because all this started after He said, “be baptized.” The Prayer Ministers anointed my face; prayed for me and told me to come back for prayer as often as I felt led. The second time at the altar, the Holy Spirit filled me to bursting and tears started flowing from my eye that had been unable to close on its own or tear up for two weeks! I removed my eye patch and started to blink again! The next week, after prayer, my facial muscles started moving and I could smile again! I had my face back although not quite the way it was at the beginning but the way God wanted it to be. In only 3 ½ weeks, my eyebrows moved and the taste buds on my tongue were back to normal. It was a blessing that things came back so quickly. Losing control of my face was a very humbling experience, but having my face and my faith restored leaves me rejoicing in God’s faithfulness and His promise to heal.
